Facebook

The ‘Facebook Connect‘ feature allows your users to ‘Register‘ in your site through their ‘Facebook Account.

To enable the ‘Facebook Connect‘ you need to create a ‘Facebook Application‘ first by following the steps in our article on how to create a ‘Facebook Application‘ through the provided link below.

After you had created your ‘Facebook Application‘ you are now ready to setup the ‘Facebook Connect‘ in your site.

Setting-up your Facebook Connect:

  1. Go to your ‘Facebook Developers page‘ and login to your ‘Facebook Account.’ Then copy the ‘App ID‘ and the ‘App Secret‘ of your ‘Facebook Application.’ See screenshot:


  2. Go to your site and login to your ‘WordPress Administrator‘ account. Then go to your ‘WordPress Dashboard‘ > ‘Appearance‘ > ‘Social Connect‘ > ‘Fb Sign-in.
  3. Now, in the in the ‘FB Sign-in‘ panel, check the ‘Enable Facebook Connect‘ checkbox.
  4. In the ‘FB Sign-in‘ panel, paste the ‘App ID‘ in the ‘Application ID‘ field and the ‘App Secret‘ in the ‘Application Secret‘ field. See screenshot:
  5. Finally, click the ‘Save Changes‘ button.

Google

To enable the ‘Google Connect‘ you need to create a ‘Google Application‘ first by following the steps in our article on how to create a ‘Google Application‘ through the provided link below.

After you had created your ‘Google Application‘ you are now ready to setup the ‘Google Connect‘ in your site.

Setting-up your Google Connect:

  1. Go to your ‘Google Developers Page‘ and login to your ‘Google Account.’ Then go to the ‘Credentials‘ panel and copy the ‘Client ID‘ and the ‘Client Secret‘ of your ‘Google Application.’ See screenshot: 


  2. Go to your site and login to your ‘WordPress Administrator‘ account. Then go to your ‘WordPress Dashboard‘ > ‘Appearance‘ > ‘Social Connect‘ > ‘Google Sign-in.
  3. Now, in the in the ‘Google Sign-in‘ panel, check the ‘Enable Google Connect‘ checkbox.
  4. In the ‘Google Sign-in‘ panel, paste the ‘Client ID‘ in the ‘Client ID‘ field and the ‘Client Secret‘ in the ‘Client Secret‘ field. See screenshot:
  5. Finally, click the ‘Save Changes‘ button.

  1. Social Connect for Facebook seems to have changed since they force HTTPS now. Would love to see updated notes as I can get Google to work but not Facebook even when following these instructions to the letter.

    1. Facebook now requires websites to have SSL (https://) when using their “Facebook Login”. Next, you need to add a valid redirect url in the settings. See screenshot below for reference:

      The “Valid OAuth Redirect URIs” should follow the given format above:

      https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=gears_fb_connect&callback=true

      It should work once your FB App is set-up correctly.
